[1/18&19/10] Scott Brown Elected Senator from Massachusetts

[1/18/10] Yes, Democats, the Sky IS Indeed Falling.

Stuart Rothenburg's standing with the media as a "respected" political analyst may be in danger.  Today, he opines that "Brown is headed for a comfortable win" in tomorrow's Massachusetts' Senate contest unless Democrat turnout exceeds everyone's expectations.  Here are some of the polls that have him willing to chance that prediction.

I like this top ten list, even if the guy doesn't know how to order his points for impact.  I especially like Number 9.

And I don't think that the there is all that much significance to the loss of the 60 vote majority, given how fast and how far numbers 50-59 will run from their party after a Coakley loss to Brown in Massachusetts.

It's truly amazing that, in just one year, the Democrats have so angered the electorate that not even Ted Kennedy's seat is safe for them.  It's hard to imagine what could prevent November's elections from being a total debacle for their party.

[8:38 PM MST 1/19/10] UNBELIEVABLE!  Brown up over Coakley 53-46 with 75% of the Vote In

Coakley has conceded.  Brown has won.

In MASSACHUSETTS!

[[9:18 PM MST 1/19/10] Massachusetts Will Have a Republican Senator!  AMAZING!

This is a far cry from Sherry's and my tour in hell, er... Massachusetts in the early seventies.  Once, we were faced in the polling booth with the choice between Congressman Tip O'Neill and his opponent, a member of the Socialist Worker's Party!  In that same election Massachusetts was the only state to vote for George McGovern.  The following year, when Richard Nixon was run out of office for his coverup of the Watergate break in, bumper stickers bloomed: Don't Blame Me -- I'm from Massachusetts!

Sherry remarked earlier this evening, after word of Coakley's concession to Brown came out, that if after this election the Democrats went ahead to ram through health care reform -- holding up Brown's seating, using reconciliation, or forcing the Senate bill on the House -- those bumper stickers would be back.

A commentator on Hannity's Fox show said that if the Democrats pulled any of those shenanigans, the result would be cataclysmic, people in the street, revolution!  Now that's hyperbole!

And my elder son Matt said "They could promise every voter in Nebraska a free trip to Disneyland and Ben Nelson wouldn't vote for that bill again!"
